Project Overview
In early 2017, the DC Water Headquarters underwent an extensive renovation, including the partial demolition of the existing concrete roof framing. With the building below remaining fully operational throughout the project, this renovation required a carefully executed temporary shoring and bracing plan to ensure safety and continuity of service.
Structural Engineering & Temporary Support Solutions
Structura provided specialized structural engineering services, developing detailed demolition sequencing, temporary shoring, and bracing drawings. Our team performed a thorough analysis of the existing concrete structure to safely support the temporary shoring loads. This critical shoring and bracing design not only safeguarded the building’s operations but also helped maintain the project timeline, allowing the space below to continue delivering fresh drinking water to the city.
Collaboration & Precision
Serving as the Contractor’s design engineer, Structura produced comprehensive shoring drawings and a formal calculation package submitted to the Engineer of Record. Our expertise in temporary support design was key to ensuring a seamless renovation process, balancing structural integrity with ongoing operations.
