Tenant Improvements
Adaptive Reuse
Mixed Use

One of our favorite revitalization projects is the historic Grimke School in Washington D.C. Originally built in 1887, the school has been renovated and restored and is now home to one of our cherished architectural partners - Torti Gallas + Partners, as well as the permanent home of the African American Civil War Museum.

The scope of the project involved the adaptive reuse and additions to the old school building, as well as the construction of two new stand-alone buildings at the same development.  The renovation to the main building included a 3 level addition in the central/rear of the building, serving the central atrium housing the new elevator core. Building B was constructed and is a new 4 story residential building with 25 residential units and 33,000 SF. Building C is also a new 6 story mixed-use building with retail at grade level and 5 levels of residential units, for a total size is approximately 34,740 SF.

The renovated two-story building and new structures now encompass 133,000 square feet of a mix of office, residential, retail, cultural, and arts uses.
