The National Geographic M Street Building is a seven-story conventionally reinforced concrete structure with four additional stories below grade, three used as parking, and encompassing approximately 116,500 SF. Based on an initial 2021 survey, there were large amounts of spalled concrete areas with corroded rebar on the topside throughout and signs of previous concrete repair work, with some showing signs of failure. Structura performed a complete survey of the existing conditions and developed repair documents which included details on how to correct damaged areas identified.
Serving as the Owner’s representative, Structura facilitated the project bidding process, provided construction administrative services throughout repairs, and hired a testing company to perform tests throughout the structure to better understand the existing conditions, including compressive tests using core samples to determine the strength of the concrete and chloride testing to determine the amount of chlorides present.
