CHARLOTTE, NC – We're thrilled to congratulate Perkins+Will's NC team on receiving the 2025 AIA North Carolina Design Excellence Merit Award for the Atrium Health Union West Hospital Renovation and Expansion. This prestigious honor celebrates innovative architectural achievements that enhance communities through thoughtful design, and we were honored to play a pivotal role in this transformative project to ensure structural excellence while supporting expanded healthcare access for the growing community.

Our team proudly partnered with Perkins+Will on the renovation and expansion, with project scope including comprehensive load analysis, foundation design, and tailored structural systems to meet current and future hospital demands. We collaborated closely with architectural and MEP teams to address critical challenges like vibration control for sensitive medical equipment, lateral stability, and strategic material selection for optimal cost and constructability. To minimize patient and staff disruption, we facilitated phased construction planning, prioritizing safety and efficiency. By emphasizing adaptability and long-term durability, our engineering solutions helped deliver a resilient facility that elevates high-quality healthcare delivery.
