Dig deeper into what we’re currently engineering.

Far be it for us to bury the lede in this project update, so let’s start with the good news. We are excited to announce that we have been honored with three awards for our work on Baltimore’s Broadway Market, nestled right in the historic Fell’s Point Neighborhood,  and snagged a Merit award for our work on NW DC’s newest residential conversion, The Sanctuary.

ACCOLADES for Broadway Market with PI.KL Studio

We’re shouting from the rooftops about bringing home the gold at the 2019 AIA Baltimore and BAF Excellence in Design Awards for our work on Broadway Market.

This name-drop worthy awards program recognizes excellence in architectural design by AIA Baltimore members and AIA members with projects in AIA Baltimore’s region, and contributions to architecture and its understanding in Baltimore.

2019 Good Design = Good Business Awards

For 13 years the Good Design = Good Business Award awards have celebrated the best utilization of good design to help companies and organizations achieve their goals. These Awards have recognized projects where design excellence elevated the resulting benefit of a project to the business, institution, or community in which it serves. Above all else, the AIA Baltimore Good Design = Good Business Award honors exceptional collaboration with exceptional results.

2019 Excellence in Design Awards Honorable Mentions

In collaboration with our partners, it was our job to update a 200 year old market to better support local business and the community. The jury was impressed with our team’s take on the “black box.” A layer of glass between the box and the facade of the brick structure acknowledges the history of the building and the wood shed structure without detracting from the design.

ULI Wavemaker Award

The Urban Land Institute recognizes outstanding real estate development projects, related programs and visionaries in urban development through its global “Awards of Excellence” program. The “WaveMaker” awards six prestigious projects in the Baltimore metropolitan region. Broadway Market stood out for its strength in project completeness, sense of place and quality, sustainability, visionary and emulation, and demonstrated need. Thanks for the love, ULI.

About Broadway Market

Baltimore, MD

Revitalizing the use and vigor of Broadway Market hit home for our native Baltimoreans. This community project was significant, a historic building with a legacy that must be honored  — and a future to be captured. The flexibility of this design means that Broadway Market could reinvent itself in ten years at minimal cost.

ACCOLADES for the Sanctuary

Builder’s Choice and Custom Home Design Awards

Builder Magazine recognized The Sanctuary, a multi family structure on historic Capitol Hill in Washington DC with a 2019 Builder’s Choice and Custom Home Design Award. A stone’s throw from Eastern Market and the Capitol itself, this iconic building has been a pillar of the streetscape for 120 years. In partnership with Bonstra | Harisign Architects, our team helped to adapt the original church structure, its sanctuary, and two adjacent townhouses, creating a cohesive community of over 35,000 sq ft of 30 unique residences. We preserved the original architecture, stained glass windows, and original stairwell. A previously inaccessible bell tower was opened up to give residents access to the rooftop and tower views of our nation’s capital. Thanks for noticing, Builder Magazine!

PROJECTS in PARTNERSHIP

Thank you to all of our friends and partners who helped us build such impactful places. Our next projects have not won awards   — yet  — but they are still our babies and we want to show them off.

Hill East with GTM Architects & McCullough Construction

WATCH: TIME LAPSE VIDEO of the Structural Buildout of Hill East 286,808 SF

Ensconced in revitalization central, Hill East is a crown jewel of Capitol Hill. Southeast DC will be gifted 262 apartments, below-ground parking, and ground floor retail, making this a true walkable neighborhood!

One of our favorite features is the one-of-a-kind facade, a mix of aluminum storefronts, brick masonry and cast stone, and fiber cement panels. Ornamental metal railings are the icing on this cake.

Step inside! The community is packed with amenities, yoga, cardio, and gym rooms, meeting spaces, and an outdoor courtyard. The relaxing rooftop boasts more grills for anytime relaxation and the dog run is a must-visit for all puppies.

Approximate value is $62M. Substantial completion will be in the summer of 2020.

Fort Lincoln with Hickock Cole Architects & McCullough Construction

The completion of the Fort Lincoln Multifamily Project, which began in 2017. The building features 370,000 sq ft and 236 units, bringing another walkable neighborhood to DC, this time in Northeast. What an exciting time to live and grow in DC!

We love this brick five-level building. It’s got a below-grade parking, and an entryway covered by a steel-framed canopy. Who isn’t excited to see the green roof?

Make some progress on that to-do list in the co-working lounge. The pet space, clubroom, fitness center, and terraces make this a great place to come home to. The Outdoor Courtyard overlooks protected wetlands, bringing pristine nature to you. One might even forget that they are living in an urban environment.

The project wrapped up in June 2019. Estimated value is $39M.
