Working with Cooper Carry Architects and the Alexandria Housing Development Corporation (AHDC), Structura was proud to work on the redevelopment of the previously existing Carpenter’s Shelter homeless facility in Alexandria, VA. The project included the addition of a new mixed-use multi-family residential building, providing 97 units of affordable housing, as well as brand new space for Carpenter’s Shelter operations. The building now includes one level of below grade parking for 100 vehicles and a first floor with spaces for the shelter along with a residential lobby and residential units. Floors 2-6 are all dedicated to residential usage with a total of approximately 115,000 square feet of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units. The building also features a community room, 3 outdoor terraces, a 1,600 square foot community garden and a playground. The total building footprint is 187,000 square feet.
